Advances in Insect Evolution seminar series

We are thrilled to announce the “Advances in Insect Evolution” seminar series sponsored by the Entomological Collections Network. This series will begin shortly after the upcoming annual meetings of the Entomological Collections Network and the Entomological Society of America. Our aim is to create an inclusive space for early-career professionals working with collections to showcase their research in a safe and inviting environment. The seminar will be held via Zoom on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 2 pm Eastern / 11 am Pacific. We’ll use the same Zoom link each time: https://bit.ly/AdvInsectEvo Recordings will be available afterwards on YouTube.

For the first installment of this seminar series, Dr. Yuanmeng Miles Zhang presented: Fantastic tiny beasts and how to identify them: Advances in the study of gall wasp communities in the genomic age. A recording of this talk is available via the ECN YouTube.

We created this seminar series for a few reasons. First, we want to showcase the amazing talent of entomologists working with collections! Second, we want to give early-career researchers the chance to provide an in-depth look into their work, beyond what a fifteen-minute conference presentation allows. And third, we’ve seen from the online conferences of 2020 and 2021 that virtual events permit broad participation across the planet and across career stages. As many events return to an in-person format, we want to maintain a dedicated space that will allow talented entomologists from all over the world to share their research.

We hope this seminar series will create an inclusive space for entomologists across the range of life experiences to showcase their research. For more on this topic, see ECN’s 2020 symposium, “Equity, Justice, and Inclusion in Ento: Making Entomological Coll Research More Accessible.”
